Journaling for Emotional Release and Self-Reflection

Journaling is a great way to take control of your life and your emotions. It’s a powerful and therapeutic practice that can have numerous benefits for your mental and emotional wellbeing. I know some people might look at journaling as something that wouldn’t really have much effect on their wellbeing, how can writing words on a page or a blog suddenly make you feel better? I used to be the same and I used to feel silly whenever I tried to journal, but after pushing myself to try and stick to it I now look forward to setting time aside to write my thoughts and feelings out.

Journaling is really easy to do. Firstly pick where you want to journal. You can use a notebook and have your entries written physically or you can use a digital journaling app or even a blog! ;) Set time aside to allow yourself to dedicate your thoughts and emotions to the journal. Consistency is key. Make sure you’re in a comfortable environment, for most people that would be their bedroom or a room in their house that they spend a lot of time. You can simply just start freewriting or you can give yourself a prompt like what you did during the day, what goals you have for the future and more. Remind yourself to write honestly, this journal isn’t for anyone but yourself. To make the experience more fun you can doodle and design your journal, make it personal. Always go back and reflect on your entries over time. It can help you track your progress, identify patterns and gain more insights into your thoughts and emotions.

With many benefits like stress reduction, problem solving, clarity of thought, goal setting and tracking, gratitude practice, memory enhancement and creative expression, journaling is definitely something I would recommend to anyone who feels stuck or mentally drained. If any of you decide to start a journal let me know! Send pictures of what kind of journal you chose, give others some inspo <3
